Rosemary
Rosemary is one of the first herbs that I got acquainted with when I began my journey with essential oils and later plants. As a teenage girl and well into my thirties, I had a problem with uneven skin tone. Without makeup, my face was red and blotchy. Hence the reason, I rarely went out without makeup on.
Often I would look at others with such envy when they would come to work or join me out socially and they weren’t wearing a drop of foundation! I wanted that same kind of peaches and cream skin too. My quest to improve my skin began around the latter part of 2009. I read all sorts of articles and blog posts about what to do to get rid of the redness. In amongst all this reading was the first references I started to see about the use of essential oils. The more I read, the more I wanted to know. As it happened, rosemary and lavender essential oils was my introduction into the beautiful world of oils and plants.
How to Plant
If you are interested in growing your very own personal stash of rosemary then the first thing to consider is to start from an already existing stem. Place your cutting (about three to four inches in length) in your soil mixture after you have stripped any leaves off the bottom one inch of the plant. Plant your rosemary in a sunny spot, making sure to water enough to keep the the plant end warm and moist until the roots begin to form. This should take around three weeks.
How to Harvest and Dry
Collecting cuttings from rosemary is quite easy. The main thing to keep in mind is too not trim the plant so far down that you don’t give it time to recover its growth. So when clippings are taken, roughly the first two or three inches is what should be trimmed of any branch. Gather branches together in bunches of three to five stems and hang upside down until branches are begin dropping their “needles” which can be collected and ground or used in a variety of different ways.
