Headaches have been experienced by most people at some point in their lives. They strike without warning and can even show up after a peaceful night’s sleep. They can start as a dull ache and persist the rest of the day or they can present as a blinding flash that feels like a sharp knife stabbing relentlessly into your brain at intervals with no rhyme or reason.
What are HEADACHES anyway?
If you’re looking for a simple definition, one could say it is a “continuous pain in the head,” but for anyone who has suffered through a lengthy one lasting upwards of four days, they are much more – they are thieves. Why? Because they rob us of our lives. They steal time that would have been spent doing a hobby we may enjoy, getting projects done or perhaps most importantly… spending time with those we love.

What is a more Natural Way to Combat Headache Pain?
If you aren’t familiar with them now, you will be as time passes and you read articles on our site…what am I referring to? ESSENTIAL OILS! Without launching into a definitive post about essential oils, something I’m planning for a later date – I’ll give you a simplistic answer as to what they are.
Essential oils are liquid substances obtained from the plant kingdom, whether it be from a trees, leaves, flowers, stems, roots, tree bark, nettles or even the resin a tree produces. These liquids, depending upon the type plant it originates from possess various molecular structures that lend themselves to extraordinary healing abilities.
What is so exciting about essential oils in connection to headaches is how INCREDIBLY EFFECTIVE they are!!!
Essential oils are “thin” in nature and evaporate quickly, that’s why they are often referred to as volatile. In some ways this would seem to be counter productive…if they evaporate quickly why would they be so effective?
The BLOOD – BRAIN BARRIER
Basically, the brain is surrounded by an intricate network of blood vessels transporting blood to support brain function. Because of the “thin” nature of essential oils, when they are applied topically, they are absorbed by the skin quickly and gain immediate access to the blood vessel network.
Topical application of essential oils for a headache can therefore be a much quicker method to find relief because they don’t have to gain access to the body through the stomach first and then get into our systems. So when applied to points on the head (temples, forehead, behind ears and base of hair line), they come into direct, quicker contact with what hurts!
What is “HEAD HONEY?”
Head honey is a blend we’ve created from five power packed essential oils: Rosemary, Lavender, Peppermint, Clove and Cinnamon. The carrier oil that completes the blend is sweet almond oil.
Each of these oils have independent properties that lend them lend themselves uniquely to headache relief, but for now we will keep things simple and leave it at – they are great for muscle tension and relief!
